Artist Books

Investigations in book arts extend Patricia Malarcher’s interest in modular construction. Books include intimate visual journals and sculptural “bookish” objects.

 

In a series of “Illuminated structures,” fragments torn from art magazines, along with fabrics and threads, are laminated into clear plastic sheets, then cut into “pages” of various sizes. These are assembled as sculptural artist books with interlocking elements.

 

Some books consist of series of unbound “pages,” often inspired by traditional illuminated manuscripts.
